Arsenal plotting summer move for Bundesliga bright spark

Arsenal’s search for a new striker could see them turn towards Bundesliga forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga who has impressed for Hamburg so far this term.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Die Rothosen having previously spent three years with Hertha Berlin, scoring 22 goals in 63 games for the capital-based club.

And despite Hamburg enduring a miserable season, Lasogga has impressed, with a hat-trick against Nuremburg in only his second start for the club back in October setting the tone for a solid debut campaign in the German top flight in which the striker has managed 11 goals in 17 appearances.

That could be enough to convince Arsenal to make a move for the player who boasts bags of potential and could be open to a move to the Emirates, where he would be able to link up with compatriots Per Mertersacker, Lukas Podolski and Mezut Ozil.

Hamburg, meanwhile, could yet be relegated from the Bundesliga, something that would most likely expedite Lasogga’s departure, with the Gunners heading up the list of potential suitors.

The Bayer Leverkusen academy graduate has four goals in 11 appearances for Germany at under-21 level and if he is keen to establish a place in Die Mannschaft national team set up, then a high-profile move to Arsenal could help.

No fee has yet been discussed, but with Lasogga reported to also be on the radar of Atletico Madrid, Arsenal may have to act fast if they are to avoid missing out on another youngster.

The Hamburg man may not be the only new German addition to the squad either, with rumours of a bid for Schalke’s Julian Draxler still very much the order of the day.

Arsenal are in Premier League action against Hull City on Sunday in a game they must win to stay in the race for fourth.

The Gunners are 3/4 to claim another precious three points, while the draw is 13/5 and the Tigers can be backed for victory at 15/4.
