Vale can confirm superiority and anchor League One treble

City’s 2-1 victory over Peterborough last week secured them three wins in a row for the first time since November 2011 and although they could only draw last time at home to Swindon there is at last some positivity around the team.

Colchester continue to struggle on the road but six points from their last two at home has eased the pressure and they will believe safety is theirs if they can secure another win with a game in hand on most of their rivals.

However, with both sides coming into the contest in good spirits and knowing that an extra point on the tally would be no bad thing the temptation is to side with the game going the same way as when the sides met in September.

The tie finished 1-1 at Ashton Gate and it could easily end the same way with both teams probably more focused on consolidating their recent form rather than gambling on a gung-ho approach.

Port Vale to beat Tranmere @ 11/10

Port Vale have been a difficult side to predict this season but their record against the lower clubs at home is impossible to argue with.

In six of their last eight games at Vale Park against opposition lower than them in the table they have walked away with three points and few teams look more vulnerable on the road than Tranmere.

Ronnie Moore’s side have lost their last two on their travels and although they secured a morale-boosting win over Notts County last time out the threat of relegation is still very real with only two points separating them from the drop.

Port Vale are in no-man’s land, clear from both dotted lines but although it looked as if they had packed their holiday bags at the end of February, when losing three consecutive games, they have recovered since with four points from their last three and can make their superiority count once more in front of their own fans.

Leyton Orient to beat Walsall @ 7/4

Walsall have imploded at exactly the wrong time and with no wins in their last nine what looked like a certain play-off place is now certainly beyond them.

Draws in their last two have steadied the ship slightly following four successive defeats, however, the concern for Dean Smith is that their travelling opponents arguably represent a stronger challenge than any they had to meet during their recent baron stretch.

Orient are still very much in the hunt for automatic promotion, just two and three points away from Brentford and Wolves respectively.

A 1-0 reversal at home to the former will have really hurt last week but they have shown plenty of times already this campaign the ability to bounce back from disappointment and Bescot Stadium could be the perfect springboard to put another run together.

Russell Slade’s men are unbeaten in their last three away from London and there is no chance the players won’t realise what an important game this is for their Championship ambitions.
