Tom Jones fav to win The Voice as girls dominate the betting

Sex Bomb singer Sir Tom Jones has emerged as the early favourite to win this year’s edition of The Voice, with competition favourite Sally Barker impressing in the knockout round of the BBC talent contest.
Barker, who has had a record deal in Germany and toured with Bob Dylan in the past, is the 5/2 frontrunner to win the show outright and gain a second bite at the fame apple after wowing the judges – and Sir Tom in particular – with a pitch-perfect rendition of Dionne Warwick’s Walk On By.
The legendary Welshman was moved to tears and wasted no time in making Barker the first person on his team of three for the “lives”, which start this weekend.
Barker is just one of six females leading the betting, with Jermain Jackman the only male among the top seven contenders as far as the odds are concerned.
Christina Marie, who belted out Mariah Carey’s Vision of Love to get through, is the second favourite at 7/2, while Rachel O’Connor’s take on Paloma Faith’s New York has seen her installed as 9/2 third favourite.
Jackman is favourite among the males at 8/1 after treating the judges, audience and viewers at home to a version of Luther Vandross’ A House is not a Home that belied his 19 years.
Elsewhere in the betting, Georgia Harrup’s attempts to distance herself from distant cousin Adele (by mentioning her at every opportunity!) have seen her priced as a 12/1 outsider, while Chris Royal has been marked up at 25/1 despite going through with a goosebump-inducing take on Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
The rank outsider though is Bizzi Dixon at 66/1. It came as a shock to see the former garage singer picked for the live shows but his pricing indicates that it won’t be too long before he’s back on the nightclub scene.
