Striker-light Hull are ousted as part of our FA Cup double

Published:

With a place in the FA Cup semi-finals at stake in two televised Sunday games we have devised a double which will see League One Sheffield United and Premier League Sunderland march on to Wembley.

A punt on both Sheffield United and Sunderland to progress as part of a double pays out at odds just shy of 8/1 with Ladbrokes.

Sheffield United to beat Charlton @ 5/4 – BT Sport 1 12:00

Under Nigel Clough the Blades have gone from strength to strength and after winning seven straight games in all competitions they couldn’t be better set to keep their astonishing cup run going at Bramall Lane.

Having accounted for two Premier League sides already (Aston Villa and Fulham) and a Nottingham Forest outfit chasing promotion to the top flight, Charlton make relatively easy opponents comparatively.

Although Chris Powell’s Addicks have saved their best form for the FA Cup, they’ve lost all three previous ties against Sheffield United in the competition and given their opponent’s recent form it’s soon to be four.

Sunderland to beat Hull @ 5/2 – ITV 1 14:00

Sunderland’s cup capers have been mightily impressive this season and despite having the stuffing knocked out of them at Wembley they can rediscover their mojo at the KC Stadium.

Had Hull been able to call upon the services of their new striking double act then this match would have a completely different complexion about it, but without cup-tied Nickica Jelavic and Shane Long the Tigers have no claws.

Newcastle laid down the blueprint by stuffing Steve Bruce’s side 4-1 at the KC in the league last time out and robbed of their twin focal points in attack, Hull can be overcome again.

It’s 14 games since Hull last kept a clean sheet in this competition also.
