Real Sociedad star denies PSG deal as Arsenal get set to pounce

Arsenal have been handed a boost with the news that Real Sociedad forward Antoine Griezmann has denied reports linking him with a move to French champions PSG.

French sports daily L’Equipe suggested the Gunners were set to miss out the French international with reports suggesting he had agreed a €30m to join Les Parisiens.

But the 23-year-old quashed the rumours on his official Twitter account: “Having seen this news, I want to deny any discussions or an agreement with a club.

“Despite rumours of a deal with PSG today, no contact or decisions of this type have been considered.”

Griezmann has had an exceptional year at the San Sebastian which could see him earn a place in France’s squad for this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Frenchman has scored 15 goals so far in La Liga which has alerted a host of Europe’s top clubs to his talents, including Arsenal, Manchester United, PSG and Juventus.

Arsene Wenger, under pressure following his side’s 6-0 defeat at Chelsea and 2-2 home draw with Swansea, is a well-known fan of Griezmann and will be delighted to hear that no deal is in place with PSG.

The north London club are desperate to boost their attacking options this summer and the Sociedad star, who has refused to rule out a move away from the Basque club, is a player they have been keeping tabs on in recent months.

The Gunners were reported to have made a move for the former French Under-21 international in January but the Txuri-urdin were not in the mood to sell their prized asset lightly with only a bid in the region of €30m enough to tempt them to cash in.

But in a week where Arsenal’s title challenge has petered out and accusations of a weak squad have been levelled at the London club, Griezmann would prove to be an excellent addition for next season.

The Gunners face Premier League title favourites Manchester City (11/10) at the weekend and are 23/10 for victory with Ladbrokes but with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey out injured, how Wenger must wish he had a player of Griezmann’s talent to call on now.
