Ramsey’s return can keep Arsenal in hunt for two trophies
With the season reaching its crescendo and two trophies still on the line, Arsenal can ill afford to keep losing their best players to injury.
The Arsenal physio room is filling up quicker than a tube train at rush hour at present, with the hamstrung Mesut Ozil the latest to join Theo Walcott, Kieran Gibbs and Jack Wilshere on the unavailable list.
Ozil will “miss at least a few weeks” which is worrying news indeed for Gooners with Premier League-title shaping examinations at arch rivals Tottenham and then Chelsea next up.
Arsene Wenger’s fourth-place side have already slipped to 20/1 shots to lift the title this season and anything but a six-point haul from those crucial London derbies would surely mean their goose is finally cooked in that challenge.
However, before punters roast the Arsenal bird completely, the news that Aaron Ramsey should be back in the squad for the White Hart Lane duel could be pivotal to their hopes of victory – rated at 6/4 with Ladbrokes.
Ramsey has not featured for Arsenal in 2014 after damaging a thigh muscle during the busy Christmas programme, but was arguably the best player in the top flight before he was sidelined.
Seemingly reborn for the Gunners as an attacking midfielder this season, Ramsey set about eclipsing £40m Ozil and the rest by helping himself to 13 goals in all competitions by the end of November.
This profound transformation from last season’s bit-part player is soon to be rewarded with a new five-year contract, but Arsenal need him to hit the ground running given the other injuries to the squad.
If Ramsey can hit anything like his pre-layoff heights then the 1/2 on FA Cup glory will look juicy and the Welshman could yet have a thing or two to say about the destination of the Premier League trophy.
