Five potential destinations for Arsenal outcast Nicklas Bendtner

Like Breaking Bad, the latest issue of OK! Magazine or a Wall’s Viennetta, the old adage that all good things must come to an end rings as true in football as in life.

And so it seems the final curtain is set to draw on the 10-year love affair between 20/1 title outsiders Arsenal and Nicklas Bendtner with the relationship seemingly severed in embarrassing fashion with the Dane reprimanded after an unauthorised trip to Copenhagen saw him involved in a bizarre altercation with a taxi driver. And no, it wasn’t like the Tom Cruise film Collateral.

But with Arsene Wenger admitting the player’s time at the club may be coming to a close, the Ladbrokes News team has stepped in to offer five potential destinations for the self-appointed greatest striker in the world.

Norwich City – Should Bendtner decide to stay in the Premier League then he could fare worse than with a move to the Canaries. Norwich are currently 13/5 with Ladbrokes to suffer relegation this season but survive and the big Dane could be the man to bolster their attacking options.

The East Anglia club have managed a paltry 22 goals in 29 league games, with Gary Hooper proving their most ‘prolific’ striker with a tally of five. A move to the quiet coastal surrounds of Norfolk could also have a calming influence on the madcap striker.

Wolfsburg – Speaking to Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten earlier this month, Bendtner outlined his ideal summer destination: “I would much rather take a club that is close to the Champions League, as a number five-to-eight in its league, where I know that I play.”

The Wolves certainly fit the bill, sitting in fifth place in the Bundesliga standings and just five points off Schalke and a Champions League place. They have the financial backing to afford the Dane, while their current frontline options Ivica Olic (too old) and Das Bost (too rubbish) suggest there is space.

Ajax – A club of Ajax’s stature would certainly play to the infamous ego of the 26-year-old and with the Dutch side already bracing themselves for a series of bids for current hot shot Kolbeinn Sigþórsson, there is room for the forward in the current setup.

Compatriot Christian Poulsen could put in a good word for Bendtner and the Eredivisie champions won’t be averse to taking on a forward who didn’t quite make it in the big leagues, with Barcelona flop Bojan on the books and ex-Newcastle United nobody Albert Luque another former charge.

Getafe – Bendtner has no doubt dreamt about starring in La Liga with either one of Barcelona and Real Madrid and while neither looks particularly likely, the pants-exposing star could get close to the latter – geographically speaking at least.

Madrid’s other team Getafe, may in a relegation battle, but survive and there should be plenty of opportunities for the Dane, with the club currently employing just two strikers – Adrian Colunga and Ciprian Marica – who have amassed five goals between them. Liverpool’s Florent Sinima Pongolle first left England for Recreativo – where he impressed enough to earn a move to Atletico Madrid.

Monaco – For a man living the playboy lifestyle in London, Monaco may represent the dream destination for the Denmark international with the Principality Club not averse to signing strikers who have endured so-so seasons in London (Berbatov) or players that failed to make the grade at Arsenal (does anyone remember Nacer Barazite? No, me neither).
