Six Nations: England looking to run in the tries against the Italians

Published:

England have never lost to Italy in the Six Nations and with Stuart Lancaster’s men attempting to keep their slim championship hopes alive that record should remain intact.

England, who are 11/10 with Ladbrokes to win the title, go into the match knowing nothing but a win will keep them in the race to win a first championship since 2011.

A lot will depend on what happens in Paris at to England’s hopes of adding to their Triple Crown success, but Chris Robshaw will lead England out with the intention of racking up a big score to against an Italian side who have conceded 120 points against them in the tournament.

Lancaster’s charges are the 1/33 favorites for victory while Italy are a massive 12/1 to pull of a huge upset against an improved England team.

Last year, the Red Rose outfit struggled against the Italians in an 18-11 win at Twickenham but this year the visitors have showed much more attacking intent during this campaign.

Luther Burrell has been in excellent scoring form with three tries from his first four internationals and the Northampton centre is 7/1 with the bookie to score the first try.

The 26-year-old is 10//1 to score at anytime but he will have Manu Tuilagi breathing down his neck after the Leicester centre returned to the squad after injury.

Tuilagi takes his place on the bench but expect Lancaster to call on his services at some point during the afternoon, making him an excellent bet at 7/1 to score the last try.

It promises to be an important afternoon for wingers Jack Nowell and Johnny May. The duo have failed to score a try in their international careers so far and with Marlon Yarde and Christian Wade on the road to recovery the pressure is on.

But they will not have a better opportunity to open their accounts with May 6/1 and Nowell 7/1 to score the first try.
