Man City on different planet to Arsenal in latest mix and match

Published:

When Arsenal lost 6-3 to Manchester City at the Etihad back in December, the first major doubts about their Premier League title credentials were cast.

Two further chastening losses to their main rivals since, first at Liverpool and latterly at Chelsea, confirmed those aspersions about the Gunners title mettle were indeed correct.

Now Arsenal’s mission statement has changed to one of simply cementing their top-four status with Everton breathing down their necks and things don’t get any easier with City the next visitors to the Emirates.

Unsurprisingly, the Gunners are the 13/5 outsiders for victory and as you can see from our mix and match XI between the sides we only see one winner as well.

Fresh from keeping five straight Premier League clean sheets Joe Hart is a shoo-in over the erroneous and often cocky Wojciech Szczesny.

In front of England’s stopper three very familiar faces make up the lion’s share of the defence.

Serbian flyer Aleksandar Kolarov is the stand-out choice at left-back,while man mountain Vincent Kompany commands the middle and arguably the Premier League’s best right-back, Pablo Zabaleta, completes the trio.

This leaves Laurent Koscielny ploughing the lone Arsenal furrow, preferred to the overly berated Martin Demichelis.

From there, it doesn’t get much better in terms of red-and-white representation, with only Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain muscling into a City-dominated midfield.

The ever-willing Fernandinho partners the Ox, allowing 21-goal Yaya Toure to be at his destructive best in a more advanced role behind City’s most in-form front man, Edin Dzeko.

Samir Nasri and David Silva are designated scheming duties from inverted wing positions to round off a thoroughly lopsided line-up.
