Liverpool v Spurs: Back these three SAS alternatives to score

Published:

When Tottenham travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in Sunday’s late kick off they’d be forgiven for focussing all their efforts on stopping the Merseyside club’s dynamic duo from finding their net.

With Liverpool heavily fancied to win the game at 4/9 and Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge priced up at 4/6 and 1/1 respectively to score at anytime, it could well pay to look elsewhere in the ranks of the league’s highest scorers for a bit of value:

Steven Gerrard – 5/2 to score anytime

Despite being deployed in a deeper role in Brendan Rodgers’ midfield of late, the Liverpool skipper hasn’t gone missing on the scoresheet.

If anything, the 33-year-old is enjoying as rich a vein of scoring form as at any other stage of his career, netting nine times in the last 13 Reds outings in all competitions.

His duties as club penalty taker only enhance his chances of finding the net these days and there are certainly worse options in the market to spend your cash on.

Raheem Sterling – 5/2 to score anytime

Sterling hasn’t been anywhere near as proficient in finding opposition nets as the duo who make up the deadly SAS, but the England youngster could reap the goalscoring rewards by exposing Spurs’ biggest weakness.

Having scored seven goals in total this season, and just once in the last seven games, Sterling isn’t an obvious choice to make the net bulge against Tim Sherwood’s side.

However, with Kyle Naughton, Danny Rose and Kyle Walker all defensively suspect, the nippy touchline-hugger can use his position on the wing as a golden opportunity to boost his numbers.

Martin Skrtel – 9/1 to score anytime

Everyone loves a cheeky quid on a defender finding the net and there aren’t too many centre-backs who’ve been as helpful to those pipe-dreamers as the Slovakian.

With six goals to his name in the campaign, Skrtel is hot on the heels of Sterling in the scoring stakes and in the last two matches he’s scored in, has gone on to bag a brace.
