England powerless to stop Denmark scoring but will still win

With Denmark in town, the masses descend on Wembley Way hoping to be able to say “I was there when England’s World Cup hype officially started.”

Forget the fact the Three Lions lost to nil on their last two outings at the home of football, a win over the Danes in their first World Cup warm-up will be all it takes to get the excitement of a successful trip to Brazil bubbling.

According to the match odds, that looks likely to happen, with England the 4/6 favourites to triumph and their Danish visitors a 5/1-shot, andthe draw at 13/5.

However, while an English win is certainly on the cards – their out-of-the-ordinary losses to Chile and Germany last time were their first defeats at Wembley for nine matches – it’s not going to be straight forward.

One thing is for certain, the English sheets will not remain clean. There have only been three matches in the last 11 in HA9 where said linen has remained unblemished and they now face opponents who are proficient scorers on the road.

Led by Nicklas Bendtner, the Red and White have only failed to score an away goal once in their last 17 matches, a run that includes scoring goals at the homes of Portugal, Italy and Mexico.

Despite being well-trained in locating the net, the Morten Olsen-managed nation have failed to win nine of those 17 battles, making the 3/1 on England winning a game where both teams score a delightfully-priced option.

It is 20/21 for both teams to score as an isolated bet, but with England players playing for their World Cup spots, there’s sure to be a driven, determined performance on display from the hosts.

Managing to outscore their Danish rivals not only seals them a win, but gets the pre-Brazil thrill whirred into a frenzy right on schedule, too.
