As easy as AVB for Dortmund to rack up the goals against Zenit

Published:

Borussia Dortmund may have been below par on the domestic front this season, but there’s something about the Champions League anthem that brings them to life and Zenit’s humiliation looks set to be completed at the Westfalenstadion.

Zenit’s 4-2 loss in the first leg proved to be the last European game in charge for axed coach Luciano Spalletti, who paid the price for a torrid run of one win in 11 competitive games.

His replacement is former Chelsea and Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas, who’s signed a two-year contract with the Russian champions, though the animated Portuguese will not take charge of this clash in Germany.

That is probably a blessing in disguise for AVB whose new outfit are rightly the 15/2 outsiders against Dortmund, while punters would be sensible to include the 4/11 on a home win in any betting plan for this game.

Having knocked the stuffing out of this tie with four away goals in St Petersburg, Jurgen Klopp’s side can wow the black and yellow faithful with the pressure firmly off.

Full of attacking menace, Dortmund have averaged three goals per game from their last three continental outings and have scored at least twice in five of their seven games in the competition this season.

Bagging another 2/3 goals against a ragged Zenit outfit is a 20/21 chance with Ladbrokes, but a punt on over 2.5 Dortmund goals is the way to go at a more profitable 11/10.

With six Champions League strikes to his name already this season, Robert Lewandowski is the obvious choice to grab the first here at 11/4, though attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan – with two of his own and four in his last six in all competitions – is better value at 9/2.
