Chesterfield to capitalise on Portsmouth’s rickety away defence
It looks just a matter of time before League Two’s Chesterfield are celebrating a leap into a higher division and it looks equally likely that they’ll be taking a step closer to the promised land when Portsmouth make the trip to the Proact Stadium.
The Paul Cook-managed Spireites are well fancied to extend their lead at the top of League Two to four points at the hands of Pompey and are rated as the 4/7 favourites to win the match.
With an 11 game unbeaten streak at home under their belts, it’s very difficult to advise backing against Chesterfield in this match, especially as Portsmouth’s away form of one win in the last 12 has them sliding into the relegation fight.
In order to find the value though, a trip to the goal markets must be made, with the 9/4 on the hosts scoring over 2.5 goals the best flutter of the lot.
Chesterfield are League Two’s highest scorers, slotting past opposition keepers 55 times this season. 28 of those goals have come at home and they’ve been on quite the goal-scoring run of late, registering more than 2.5 goals in three of their last four home games.
Adding to that tally shouldn’t be too much of a stretch against struggling Portsmouth, who have shipped the most goals on the road this season in league endeavours and lost 5-1 to Scunthorpe the last time they vacated Fratton Park.
Elsewhere, its 31/20 that Chesterfield win a game containing over 2.5 goals, while it’s 18/5 that they win by a margin of two goals, something they’ve achieved in 12 of their 17 League Two victories during the campaign.
