Chelsea outcast would suit Newcastle switch if Remy leaves

After spending just over a year marooned in obscurity at Chelsea, it’s no surprise to learn that Demba Ba is angling for a summer ticket out of Stamford Bridge.

As far as ill-advised moves go, Ba’s transfer to Chelsea from Newcastle in January 2013 has transpired to be up there with the worst of them.

Having blazed a goal-scoring trail in a season-and-a-half at St James’ Park, Ba couldn’t resist jumping ship to the bright lights of the King’s Road, but has since found SW6 to be a pretty unwelcoming home, especially after Jose Mourinho took charge of the Blues once more.

Despite Chelsea fighting for both the Premier League title and Champions League glory in the run-in – where they are priced at 11/5 and 11/1 respectively – Ba’s involvement has remained sporadic at best.

The capture of Samuel Eto’o ensured Ba slid further down the pecking order of strikers all vying for one spot and the Senegalese has grown disillusioned as a result.

The front man said: “My agent has spoken to the club about a departure and he has started speaking with other clubs about a contract for next season.

“I hope we can find the best option possible. I’d like to stay in England. I like other leagues, too. I’d like to try the Italian league.”

However, rather than head for the pedestrian pace of Serie A, there could well be scope for Ba to be reunited with his previous employers in the north East, should, as is expected, Newcastle loanee Loic Remy move on to pastures new.

Having racked up 29 goals in just 54 Magpies appearances, Alan Pardew would be foolish to ignore the 28-year-old’s pending availability.

Ba would be sure to get game time and has already proven his Premier League goal scoring calibre.
