Five better banner messages for Man Utd fans’ Moyes Out plane
Published:It took four-fifths of the campaign for Old Trafford to become enveloped in mutiny, but the negativity has escalated rapidly.
First came attempts to confront David Moyes and Sir Alex Ferguson and tear down the Chosen One banner as Manchester United crashed to a 0-3 defeat to Manchester City.
Now fans have hired a plane to circle the ground with a “Wrong One: Moyes out” message at the start of the Premier League home game with Aston Villa, which the Red Devils are 5/4 to win to nil.
The protesters, whose actions aren’t backed by the Manchester United Supporters Trust, are 16/1 to see their wish granted by Moyes being sacked within 24 hours of the flight.
However, it isn’t the most imaginative message leading the rebellion, so here are five possible alternatives:
Nine months of excuses and it’s still crap – ta ra Moyesy
Nothing beats continuity, so why not rip off the line used in Pete Molyneux’s infamous anti-Ferguson bedsheet-defacer from 1989? Perhaps history will prove this anti-manager rally similarly premature.
Extradite Moyes for the Fellaini felony
To many, Moyes’ greatest blunder was wasting £27.5m on Marouane Fellaini, who even he seems to have lost faith in given how rarely he plays 90 minutes, so why not immortalise that moment on a skyline scroll?
Fergie, you chose the wrong Everton boss
Moyes’ miserable season is compounded by how well Everton replacement Roberto Martinez has fared. The Spaniard is mentioned as a future Arsenal, Barcelona or England manager; why not add Man United to the list?
The Lederhosen One – Bring On Pep!
Man United couldn’t woo Pep Guardiola now, but perhaps if Ferguson had made his succession plan earlier last term, or the decision was left to the men in suits, they could have beaten Bayern Munich to the serial winner. He wore lederhosen during Oktoberfest, assisting this handy “Chosen One” riff.
