Top 5 best bets of the weekend: Bayern to go goal crazy again

Published:

It’s that time of the week again. Our news team have busy casting an eye over the weekend’s sporting action and come up with five of our best selections to put you in punting paradise.

In our inaugural effort we managed to predict three correct outcomes but not content with that performance, we’re aiming for a five-star showing this time around.

Bayern Munich top the bill, with Pep Guardiola’s side backed to smash Schalke at the Allianz Arena, while Chelsea, Leonardo Di Caprio, Terence Crawford and and Real Madrid also feature.

Bayern Munich to score over 3.5 goals vs Schalke @ 9/5 – (Saturday 17:30, BT Sport 1)

Bayern remain untouchable in the Bundesliga and it’s unlikely that Schalke will find any joy in their attempt to inflict a first league defeat of the season for FCB.

The visitors come into this fixture off the back of a 6-1 thumping by Real Madrid in the Champions League and those same defensive frailties can be ruthlessly exposed by Pep Guardiola’s outfit here.

The champions-elect have smashed in four or more goals in three of their last four league games while Schalke have conceded four or more strikes in each of their previous three encounters with the Bavarians.

Expect more misery for The Miners as they’re put to the sword once again.

Fulham v Chelsea – Draw/Chelsea @ 3/1

Bottom-dwellers Fulham host table-topping Chelsea in this west London derby and while we think they’ll eventually succumb to another defeat, Felix Magath’s strugglers will still make this a competitive affair.

Three of the pair’s last five Premier League meetings have been draws with the Blues having to wait until after half-time to break down their rivals in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.

The Cottagers have been at least level at the interval in their last six league outings and they could make Jose Mourinho’s men sweat on securing another valuable three points.

Leonardo Di Caprio to win Best Actor @ 5/1

If social media experts are to be believed this is the year when Leonardo Di Caprio will finally break his Oscar duck.

The Wolf on Wall Street star is the outsider to pick up the gong with Matthew McConaughey the standout favourite at 1/6 for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club.

But four-time nominee Di Caprio may be about to cause a major upset according to Ebuzzing who have been busy analysing English language Oscar-related tweets.

Their conclusion that there’s a “remarkably strong correlation” between talk on social media and subsequent Oscar winners has proven accurate in the past and who are we to disagree?

Terence Crawford to defeat Ricky Burns @ 4/9

The ‘fighting pride of Coatbridge’, WBO Lightweight champion Ricky Burns has led a charmed life in the ring of late with his last fight a contentious draw against Mexican Raymundo Beltran that resulted in the Scot suffering a broken jaw after being dropped in the eighth round.

And despite this fifth defence of his belt being on home territory in Glasgow, Burns (36-2-1) might not get so lucky against hard-hitting American Terence Crawford (22-0).

The unbeaten challenger has knocked out 16 of his previous opponents and could ensure there’s no doubt about the outcome of this contest if he manages to land a telling blow.

Real Madrid to beat Atletico Madrid @ 11/10

Los Blancos’ impressive form shows no sign of abating while city rivals Atletico have been floundering of late, losing four of their last six games in all competitions.

A comprehensive 5-0 aggregate defeat of Atletico in the Copa del Rey, including a recent 2-0 victory at the Vincente Calderon, has been part of a sequence that’s seen Real go 27 games unbeaten.

And there’s likely to be no let-up in Carlo Ancelotti’s side’s title assault with the price available on another victory the value bet of the weekend.
