Support for Warrington warranted as they bid to set history straight
Published:Warrington have been backed from 7/2 to 3/1 with Ladbrokes to finally break their Super League Grand Final duck after missing out in agonising fashion last year.
The Wolves were cruising to their first success in the competition when half-time whistle blew against Wigan, only to see the Warriors raise their level and theirs drop resulting in what in the end was a comfortable 30-16 victory for Wigan and with it their third Grand Final trophy.
This season though Tony Smith’s side are all the rage in what promises to be one of the most wide-open campaigns to date with only four points separating the first five in the betting.
Warrington also lost out in the final the year before when letting another chance slip against perennial champions Leeds Rhinos.
However, there is a new energy around Tony Smith’s Barmy Army this term even with the departure of captain and former Great Britain skipper Adrian Morley to the Salford Red Devils.
Prop Ben Westwood and hooker Michael Monaghan have both been appointed in a shared role to lead the team out and that news has gone down well with punters who are in a rush to invest in the favourites.
Their conquerors of last year are largely friendless in the market at 4/1 after seeing star man Sam Tomkins depart to bigger riches in the NRL among other departures from the three-time winners that many have perceived as damaging to their hopes despite their attempts at finding replacements.
Salford have also been appealing to ante-post players with owner Marwan Koukash sparing no expense to meet his ambitions with the club overseeing 14 new arrivals.
However, they still remain 16/1 for a reason having never even competed in a Grand Final with many rightly suggesting that they will need another season at least before all the changes start bearing fruit.
At the other end of the spectrum the unanimous forecast is for another season of pain for the London Broncos with the under pressure club just 4/9 to finish bottom and fall out of the trap door.
