Three stars to fire Olympiacos to win over Manchester United

Published:

Olympiacos’ status as underdogs for their Champions League clash with Manchester United may have been enhanced by the transfer of Konstantinos Mitroglou, but the Greek champions boast plenty of other players capable of finding the net at the Karaiskakis Stadium.

Sold to Fulham for £12m back in January, the 25-year-old forward notched up 14 goals in 12 Greek Superleague games as well as a further three goals in five European appearances this term.

But with home support behind them Thrylos will be confident of getting on the scoresheet against the Red Devils, having previously found the net in each of the last eight Champions League games played at home.

And if anyone is to find the net for the hosts, who are 5/2 for victory with Manchester United 23/20 to win and the draw priced at 12/5, it could be one of these three.

Michael Olaitan to score anytime @ 5/2

In the absence of the injured Javier Saviola, Olympiacos’ unheralded Nigerian sensation could be the man to step up to the plate after impressing in the league with an impressive eight goals in 15 games for the reigning champions following a summer move from Veria.

Previously impressing for the Super Eagles at Under-20 level, Olaitan is evidently relishing the opportunity to test himself against Manchester United and with the midfielder operating in a centre forward role of late, the absence of alternatives could see him among the goals.

Alejandro Dominguez to score anytime @ 10/3

Operating as an attacking midfielder/supporting striker, Dominguez first caught the eye of the footballing world during a second stint with Rubin Kazan in 2009 that saw him amass 16 goals in just 23 appearances.

That haul included a stunning winner against Barcelona in the Champions League and despite a nomadic few years since in Spain and Argentina, the midfielder looks to be back to his best at Olympiacos having already scored two goals in the Champions League for the Greek giants.

Joel Campbell to score anytime @ 4/1

Currently on loan at the club from Arsenal, Campbell has shown manager Michel exactly why the north London club focused all their attention on capturing the Costa Rican’s signature when a rumoured deal for Juan Mata hung in the balance.

Able to operate as a striker as well as on the wing, the 21-year-old has amassed a solid seven goals in 24 appearances for the team, demonstrating the kind of ability that has had some Olympiacos fans urging the hierarchy to make the current loan deal a permanent one.
