Spurs to topple under-cooked Dnipro in game of many goals

| 20.02.2014

After an eight day rest Tottenham get back into action with a Europa League outing in Ukraine, against one of their former managers.

Juande Ramos, now Dnipro boss, was shown the door at White Hart Lane during the 2008/09 campaign after collecting just two points from the first eight games and falling short of Daniel Levy’s expectations.

Current Lilywhites manager, Tim Sherwood, could empathise with the Spaniard this term as rumours of replacements being lined up should he fail to land a top-four spot gather pace.

For now though, the gillet-sporter will be purely concerned with returning to north London in a positive position after this round-of-32 first-leg battle, although doing so looks to be in balance as far as the match odds are concerned.

Sherwood’s side are priced up as the slimmest of outsiders to win, at 7/4, with Ramos’ men the 6/4 favourites and the draw a 23/10 possibility.

Dnipro, who occupy fourth place in the Ukrainian Premier League, haven’t played a competitive match since December and are likely to be fairly ring-rusty, handing the advantage to the visitors.

However, rather than take that 7/4 on an outright victory, it’s advised that Ladbrokes customers lengthen the odds slightly by plumping for the 19/5 about Spurs winning in a game that contains over 2.5 goals.

The reasons for this ploy are numerous. Firstly, Spurs are a road side this season having lost just three times in all competitions away from their N17 surrounds this term.

Secondly, they’ve located the onion bag in those trips, particularly under Sherwood who has broke the club free from the Andre Villas-Boas sludge. In the last nine away games, Tottenham have scored at least two goals on seven occasions.

Finally, Dnipro are known overs-lovers. All of their last five games have risen above the 2.5 barometer, they’ve kept just one clean sheet in their last six home matches and haven’t failed to find the net there this season.
