Seagulls to beat Latics in our home comfort Championship treble

Published:

The Championship promotion race is gathering pace and this week sees a number of top 10 clubs face off in the battle to reach the Premier League Promised Land.

Eighth-placed Brighton are tied on 46 points with Wigan and will look to boost their own playoff chances with a win over the Latics.

Leaders Leicester can take another step towards automatic promotion with victory over ninth-placed Ipswich and Reading can put some daylight between themselves and the chasing pack with three points from Blackburn.

With home advantage set to prove the difference this weekend backing this trio at odds of almost 7/1 looks a shrewd bet, with a £10 stake returning a healthy £74.51.

Brighton to beat Wigan @ 5/4

Identical points and goal difference tallies indicate that this will be a close encounter but Wigan’s patchy away form means the Seagulls are the pick here.

Albion are unbeaten in eight matches at home, having lost just one of their last 11 at the Amex, and proving incredibly hard to break down in recent games.

Oscar Garcia’s men have conceded just one goal in five outings in front of their own fans and with Wigan struggling on the road they’ll be confident of a fourth successive home win in the division.

The Latics have won just three of their last eight away from the DW Stadium and will find themselves leapfrogged by the hosts come the final whistle.

Leicester to beat Ipswich @ 8/13

Leicester have offered little value of late as they continue their march to the Championship title, but the visit of playoff-chasing Ipswich makes the Foxes a worthwhile pick at the prices.

Ipswich are unbeaten in five but the draw specialist tag picked up by Mick McCarthy’s men in recent weeks does little to inspire confidence in an away win for the Tractor Boys.

The visitors have drawn eight of their last 15 games and four of their last six away from Portman Road and while a share of the spoils would be a good result for the Blues, Leicester are unlikely to be in a charitable mood.

Nine wins in their last 12 matches, and just a single home defeat in 16 league outings, has Leicester as the favourites for automatic promotion courtesy of an eight point gap over second-placed Burnley.

Having lost just one of six meetings with this weekend’s opponents Nigel Pearson’s men should pick up maximum points with relative ease.

Reading to beat Blackburn @ 21/20

Reading’s solid home form, coupled with Blackburn’s recent struggles, means there really is only one way this game is going to go.

The Royals have lost just three times in 15 matches in front of thier own fans, while Rovers have picked up three points just once in six matches overall.

Further confidence can be garnered from Rovers’ away poor record, which has seen them collect just three wins in 15 games away from Ewood Park.

Expect reading to boost thier promotion hopes here and extend the visitors’ current winless road run to five.
