Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale can fire Real Madrid to historic treble

The best, the most expensive, and arguably the most underrated player in the world all played an equal part in dismantling Schalke 6-1 in the Champions League round-of-16 first leg in Germany.

A brace apiece from Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale destroyed the Bundesliga outfit in Gelsenkirchen to leave Real Madrid all-but in the quarter-finals and installed as co-second favourites at 7/2 to lift the European Cup with Ladbrokes.

With such a fearsome strike force at his disposal – the trio have now netted a combined 61 goals for Madrid this season– Carlo Ancelotti’s current crop of Galacticos look simply unstoppable at present.

Like the classic run-away train in an old Western movie, Los Merengues have been busy flattening anything left on the rails since last tasting defeat back in October, as they’ve now gone 27 unbeaten, winning 16 of their last 17 matches.

However, unlike the unmanned steam engine careening towards potential disaster, this Madrid motion picture only looks set for a happy ending – with these three amigos the heroes of the picture.

Having already booked a place in the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona and currently sitting at the top of La Liga as well, emulating their great rival’s historic treble of 2008/09 becomes a distinct possibility.

Ancelotti’s class of 2013/14 capturing this glorious triumvirate can now be backed at tantalising odds of 12/1 with Ladbrokes.

Of course, Barcelona may have something to say about this, possibly on all three fronts, but given the way the nine-time European champions are clicking right now it’s going to take something monumental to halt their progress.

Having Bale and Ronaldo who can conjure goals from nowhere and Benzema – who is finally silencing his Madrid doubters with 18 goals to date -leading the line, even the likes of Bayern Munich will struggle to contain Los Blancos.
