Koeman emerges as a top contender to land Swansea role

Ronald Koeman has emerged as a frontline contender for the vacant managerial position at Swansea City.
The Swans recently parted company with League Cup-winning boss Michael Laudrup after a run of poor results but remain an attractive club to manage by virtue of their league position.
Following a 3-0 south Wales derby win over Cardiff, the Liberty Stadium outfit sit 10th in the Premier League and are an outside bet at 12/1 for relegation.
Interim player-manager Garry Monk did his chances of landing the role on a permanent basis little harm with victory over the Bluebirds but, while the current squad are fully behind him, the former Southampton and Barnsley defender could struggle to lure top talent to the club.
This could play into the hands of Koeman, whose agent recently contacted the Swans about the role, with the former Barcelona star having played and managed in the top leagues of Spain, Holland and Portugal.
Koeman has three Eredivisie titles and a Copa del Rey trophy among his managerial achievements and is exactly the sort of candidate who could solidify the club’s status as a top 10 outfit and begin an assault on the European places.
The 50-year-old is currently in charge at Feyenoord, where he has secured back-to-back top three finishes, but is out of contract in the summer and weighing up his options.
He originally signed a short-term deal at De Kuip in order to take up the number one role for the Dutch national side, but with the Oranje opting instead for Gus Hiddink the door is open for a move to south Wales.
With a tricky visit to Stoke coming up this week- which the Swans are priced at 2/1 to win – the honeymoon period could soon be over for Monk.
Swansea have won just one of their last four at the Britannia Stadium and while the visitors currently occupy a top 10 spot they are just four points above the drop zone and another defeat could leave the Welsh club’s board looking further afield for their next permanent boss.
