Roma defence at the heart of our European weekend accumulator

Published:

This weekend sees no fewer than 12 televised football matches across the best leagues on the continent and we’ve picked out four gems to make an accumulator paying out at odds of over 42/1.

The Roma defence is at the heart of this fourfold, with Rudi Garcia’s back line in rude health.

Back I Giallorossi to win and keep a fourth consecutive clean sheet and add in wins for Wolfsburg and Villarreal and a draw for Reims and Bordeaux for returns of £438.50 from a £10 stake.

Reims and Bordeaux to draw at 21/10

These two sides haven’t scored a goal against each other since 2007, with the last three meetings ending all square at 0-0.

Neither team is in great form coming into this match and with just two points separating Hubert Fournier’s 7th-placed Reims and Francis Gillot’s 8th-placed Bordeaux both would be happy with a share of the spoils as they bid to break into the European places.

The hosts have lost their last two at the Stade Auguste Delaune after tasting defeat in just one of seven at home before that but with two consecutive away losses Les Girondins look ill-equipped to pounce on this sudden dip in form.

Villarreal to beat Celta Vigo @ 1/2

Villarreal have won just one of their last eight meetings with Celta but Marcelino Garcia Toral’s men will be confident of improving that record given Os Celticos’ current away form.

Luis Enrique’s side are unbeaten in four of their last five games in the division – winning three of those – but it has been a different story in recent matches away from the Estadio Balaidos, where they have lost four of their last five.

The Yellow Submarine, meanwhile, have suffered defeat in just two of their last 12 games at El Madrigal and go into this tie looking for a fourth straight La Liga win in front of their own fans.

Wolfsburg to beat Hertha Berlin and over 2.5 goals @ 18/5

The only away side to get the nod on this week’s acca, Wolfsburg have been beaten in just one of their last six games away from the Volkswagen Arena.

Die Wolfe have won three in a row against Berlin and with the hosts recently deserted by their strong home form, another win is on the cards for Dieter Hecking’s men.

Hertha have won just once in five games at the Olympic Stadium, after winning five of the previous six, and while they look guaranteed to score against the visitors this will not help them avoid another loss.

Jos Luhukay men’s have scored in six of the last seven meetings between the two, with those matches producing 27 goals at an average at 3.85.

However, with Wolfsburg smashing 11 in the last three, the visitors look set to get the best of another goal fest here.

Roma to beat Sampdoria to nil @ 21/20

Roma are flying in Serie A, having lost just one of their last 24 games in the division, and will make light work of a Sampdoria side 10 places below them in the league.

Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men have won just four of their last 28 games away from the Stadio Luigi Ferraris and could not be facing I Giallorossi at a worse time.

Rudi Garcia’s men are on a 12-match unbeaten run at home, winning the last four straight, and have conceded just one goal in five games as hosts.

Roma have now kept three home clean sheets in a row and with 11 goals scored in these games, the writing is on the wall for Sampdoria this weekend.
