Rock solid defence to hand Bayern a win to nil over Arsenal

Published:

This will be Pep Guardiola’s third trip to face Arsenal as a manager and he’s never made it successfully before.

That is about as much hope as the Gunners have to cling to ahead of their last-16 first-leg Champions League clash with Bayern Munich, according to the match odds.

Normal customs usually dictate that the home side are made betting favourites for a match, but such is the task at Arsenal’s hand that Ladbrokes actually have them as 7/2 outsiders to win this game. Guardiola’s visitors are rated as 3/4 favourites, with the draw at 11/4.

Bayern’s form goes a long way to justifying those skinny odds but their recent run of supremacy can actually be combined with another trend of theirs for a highly lucrative bet at the Emirates.

23/10 is available on a Bavarian win to nil, which is by far the best bet of the battle.

Guardiola’s men have won 20 of their last 21 matches, with Manchester City in this very same competition the only side able to break their run of victories since the middle of October.

With a knack for ending games on the triumphant side, Bayern’s steel at the back adds to the confidence that they’ll be able to seal another win with the added bonus of keeping their sheets clean at the same time.

They’ve shut out seven of their last eight opponents, and have conceded just 10 times in that run of 21 games previously mentioned.

The fact they’re on the road shouldn’t fill Arsenal with confidence either, as Philipp Lahm and co have shipped just one goal in the last seven sojourns away from the Allianz Arena.

Their defenders don’t restrict themselves to stopping the rival’s attackers, though. Brazilian centre-back Dante has scored three times in the last four games, is a hefty 22/1 to notch the first of the clash and an equally appealing 15/2 to bag at any time.
