PSG’s Silva right to pinpoint Chelsea star as future upgrade

For a club as ambitious and oil-rich as Paris Saint-Germain, nothing other than complete footballing domination is satisfactory.

It’s an ambition Les Rogue et Bleu defender Thiago Silva knows only too well, and the Brazilian has spoken of the club’s need to buy players like Eden Hazard if they want to challenge on all fronts in future.

Rated as 11/1-shots to win the Champions League, PSG are clearly a side in need of more star quality in order to land European football’s top gong, as far as Ladbrokes are concerned. But is Hazard really a player they need?

The answer is an unequivocal yes. Taking a look through Les Parisiens’ squad there aren’t too many areas where a weak-link is obvious.

Edinson Cavani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are world-class strikers, backed up by a solid midfield three that’s been strengthened by the arrival of Yohan Cabaye, and a dependable back four.

Barring keeper Salvatore Sirigu, who is by no means a household name, the only department that needs an upgrade is the wide areas, where Hazard is out-performing all Parc des Princes employees.

PSG’s most common formation is 4-3-3, with Zlatan and Cavani joined by Ezequiel Lavezzi upfront. However, the stats show Hazard could easily oust the Argentine from that line-up.

Hazard’s 12 league goals bests Lavezzi’s current haul by nine, while the Belgian has two more assists than his rival with five.

A breathtaking carrier of the ball, Hazard would also add a new dimension to Paris’ game. His 3.7 successfully completed dribbles far outranks PSG’s best effort, which comes in the form of Lucas Moura’s 2.5.

The former Lille player also makes more key passes than any player in the French club’s squad, proving that his signing would be a step in the right world-dominating direction for Laurent Blanc’s men.
