Price Boost: Benteke can reward generously for breaking deadlock

Published:

Aston Villa tend to enjoy being cut-loose from their Villa Park shackles and as they visit lowly Cardiff there is nobody better equipped in their ranks to grab those all important goals than Christian Benteke.

Granted, by his own remarkably prolific standards of last season, it’s reasonable to say that Benteke is not quite the Premier League goal-scoring force of nature during the current campaign.

However, three goals from his last five top-flight outings in claret and blue suggest the Belgian is back in business in front of the onion bag.

And, considering he’s been boosted from 11/2 to 13/2 to score first against Cardiff, there’s never been a better time to back him either.

The fact that Cardiff have leaked the first goal of the game in six consecutive league outings adds further favour to a punt on the Villa man.

The return to fitness of striking ally Gabby Agbonlahor also adds another tick to the box, as the Belgian has scored five of his six Premier League goals this season when starting alongside the Birmingham native.

Meanwhile, those looking for a dip into the match odds market may wish to swerve Cardiff’s shortish-looking 7/5 for the win as the Welsh side have failed to implement back-to-back home wins all season.

At 2/1, Villa look the value pick here as they’ve picked up four of their seven league wins on the road this season.

Cardiff’s major problem is in defence where they’ve sieved goals at a considerable rate, averaging two per game in their last three league matches alone, with only bottom side Fulham having concede more overall.

Therefore, Villa to score another 2/3 in south Wales is a real tempter at 2/1 with Ladbrokes.
