As Manchester City’s quadruple quest rumbles on the odds tumble

| 16.02.2014

Gazumping fierce rivals Manchester United’s famous treble of 1999 with a haul of four trophies of their own would be a dream come true for Manchester City, and they are now just 40/1 to achieve that fantasy according to Ladbrokes.

The bookies have cut City to clear 6/5 favourites for the FA Cup as a result of their win over Chelsea and with one of Liverpool and Arsenal the only likely contenders to that particular crown, it’s hard to look beyond Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

A trip to Wembley to face Sunderland in the Capital One Cup final means they are also the favourites to claim that piece of silverware and, with a game in hand to make up the three points they trail Chelsea by in the Premier League, are also rated as the men to beat in the race for the title.

That means their odds to be the first English team to win every competition they entered in a season are now cut to 40/1 (from 66/1).

With Barcelona their next opponents in the Champions League, that tournament looks to be the likely stumbling block in their quest to make history. But for anyone looking to play it safe with a dabble on City winning a domestic treble, they best do it soon as those odds have already halved to 4/1.

City fans started backing their side for the quadruple at odds as big as 150/1 in the summer leaving the bookies facing a payout of over a million pounds should Pellegrini’s break new ground in trophy collection.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We’re not prepared to offer long odds about City landing a domestic treble. As for the quadruple, City fans have backed it at huge prices so we’ll be in the rare position of cheering Barcelona on in the Champions League mid week.”
