Man United interviews and four other things to annoy Roy Keane

Manchester United’s defeat to Olympiacos in the Champions League, making them 2/1 shots to qualify, paved the way for Roy Keane to deliver a passionate performance in punditry, in typically snarling fashion.

Of course this isn’t the first time the ITV spewer has been annoyed. Here’s a selection of other things that have blown his top:

Laughter in the tunnel at half time

Stewart Downing’s half-time joviality really got Keane’s goat during West Ham’s 5-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest this season.

After spotting the sight of Downing’s teeth in the tunnel Keane spat: “Ya see Downing there laughing and smiling in the tunnel…lets see if he’s laughing after the match!”

He wasn’t.

Insipid interviews

Michael Carrick fronted up after the Olympiacos debacle without really offering too much explanation for United’s performance.

For Keane it was a bridge too far after watching a game where the Old Trafford club lacked “urgency”.

Losing fans singing

Ireland’s perfomance, both on the pitch and in the stands, infuriated Keane during Euro 2012. So many fantastic Keane-isms came in the aftermath of watching his country lose 4-0 to Spain that there just really isn’t space for them all.

Instead, we’ll give you the highlight from his column with The Sun: ”You’ll never beat the Irish? It’s time for that song to be put away because, at the moment, everyone is beating them. I’m sick of this ‘win, lose, we’re on the booze’ mentality.”

“There’s a fine line between confident and cocky, and I think he’s been a little bit too cocky this year.”

Keane: Poor goalkeeping, his form was poor last year. Look, I think everyone thinks I’m on the goalkeepers back..

Dixon: You are

Keane Listen it’s football, the ball is gonna move! It’s straight down the middle!

“I would have dropped Joe Hart six months ago. He’s arrogant. He’s making far too many mistakes.”

Other pundits

When Nani was sent off in last season’s Champions League it caused uproar, ironically though, Keane agreed with the decision.

The ensuing debate between Keane, Lee Dixon and Gareth Southgate was compelling not least for Keane’s reaction to Southgate’s assertion that Nani wasn’t aware of Alvaro Arbelloa’s presence.

“You say he wasn’t aware, Gareth,” Keane interjects
“Does he not think there’ll be other footballers on the pitch?”
