Liverpool look to Real Madrid man to add even more goals

Manchester City have taken plenty of plaudits for their attacking prowess this season, but Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool are the only team in the league able to lay claim to their crown.

The Reds, with their potent attacking S’s, have scored 66 goals in their 26 Premier League games, which lies just three behind Manuel Pellegrini’s City in the scoring stakes.

Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Brazil-bound Raheem Sterling (among others) have helped lift Liverpool into the top four, forcing Ladbrokes to make them 1/4 shots to qualify for next season’s Champions League and 9/1 dark horses for the Premier League title.

The ultimate ambition, though, is to rejoin Europe’s elite competition and should that happen the Northern Irishman has an audacious transfer target lined up to make their strike force even more fearsome.

Karim Benzema has been linked to other high-end Premier League clubs in his time, but has indicated to Liverpool via a third-party agent, according to the Metro, that he’d be keen to leave Real Madrid this summer.

Liverpool are confident they can attract the Frenchman to Merseyside, with their attacking verve a major attraction. But the Champions League is a pre-requisite to any move being made.

Benzema is certainly not revered in the Bernabeu stands like other Los Blancos players. He remains an important part of the side, though, having missed just two La Liga matches so far this season and one Champions League tie.

18 goals in 33 games for club and country this season isn’t of Suarez or Sturridge standards but the 26-year-old who has been capped 64 times by France is easily capable of better.

Landing his signature would definitely be seen as a coup for Liverpool, whose odds to win next season’s title would shrink significantly should he arrive.
