Inter poised to give loyal Man United servant new lease of life

Despite David Moyes reportedly labelling Nemanja Vidic ‘the best defender I’ve ever worked with’ it appears the Scot and Manchester United are still happy to let his current contract expire this summer.

Heading the list of clubs more than grateful for United’s apparent lack of interest in resigning their defensive stalwart, are Inter Milan.

Some rumours doing the rounds even suggest that talks between 32-year-old Vidic and the Italian club have ended in an informal agreement for a transfer this summer.

However, given the stature of the player – who has helped the Red Devils to five Premier League titles and a Champions League during his time at Old Trafford – there are understandably others thought to be sniffing around his signature.

Among those are Serie A champions Juventus and the gazillionaires of Monaco, who are looking to build a side capable of challenging for the Champions League trophy.

Although Man United’s skipper has endured his fair share of injury problems in recent seasons, the fact he is still first choice when fit, renders the decision not to keep him at the club bewildering.

As it stands the champions are in a scrap just to make fourth this season, a tussle that Ladbrokes rate at 7/2 for them to win, with Liverpool currently seven points better off occupying the spot presently.

Granted, Vidic no longer strikes as much fear as he once used to into Premier League centre-forwards, but even as Moyes looks to reshape his own team for next season, having a player who has won so much about the place surely can’t hurt.

Meanwhile, Vidic is in line to return to the United starting line-up against Fulham after serving his three-match ban for being sent off against Chelsea in their 3-1 loss.
