Fixture list suggests Mourinho may have to change tune soon
Published:Love him or otherwise, Jose Mourinho is certainly adding more than a pinch of spice to this most exciting of Premier League title races.
With his so-called little horses (who is he kidding?) currently occupying the top spot in the Premier League table ahead of their FA Cup clash at the Etihad, it’s unsurprising that Mourinho’s bolshieness in front of the microphone has increased of late.
The ‘feisty one’ aimed his latest barb at Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, claiming the Frenchman was a “specialist in failure”, while stating that if he was to preside over eight trophy-less years at Chelsea he would “leave London and never come back.”
Opinion will be split over whether or not this latest stinging jibe is merely part of the game being played out against the other title-chasing managers or whether in fact, Mourinho has stepped over the mark.
This differential is about right given that Chelsea’s dropped points at West Brom only leave a three-point gap to City, who now have a game in hand due to the postponement of their midweek fixture against Sunderland.
Given City’s vastly superior goal difference, collecting three points will effectively see them ahead again.
And looking at City’s and 7/1-shot Arsenal’s next three league fixtures compared to that of Chelsea’s, we may be seeing a slightly less belligerent Blues boss in a few weeks time.
Chelsea sandwich a west London derby at Fulham inbetween entertaining sixth-place Everton and then welcoming London rivals Tottenham – the best away side in the top-flight – to Stamford Bridge also.
Meanwhile, Arsenal face Stoke, Swansea and Sunderland and City line-up against Stoke, Aston Villa and Hull in the same period – with both playing at home twice in that run also.
