Everton v West Ham: Toffees to come unstuck against hot Irons

Published:

West Ham travel to Goodison Park having won their last four Premier League games and that run can continue against Roberto Martinez’s out-of-sorts Everton outfit.

The Hammers are rated as the 6/1 underdogs but having conceded just one goal in their last five games they’ll be confident of pinching another vital three points.

Everton are the 4/9 favourites to record just a second league win in six matches while you can get odds of 10/3 for the spoils to be shared with Ladbrokes.

Given that the Toffees are undefeated in their last 12 against West Ham they might appear the obvious choice here but the visitors have been rejuvenated in recent weeks with a squad that’s slowly returning to a clean bill of health.

Club stalwarts Carlton Cole and Kevin Nolan have hit a combined six goals in their side’s last four games with the latter once again offering a vital contribution from midfield this term.

Nolan is available at 10/1 to score first and a potentially great value bet at 7/2 to net at any time.

Meanwhile, striker Cole is a 10/3 shout to net during the 90 minutes, a feat he’s achieved on two separate previous occasions against Everton.

For the hosts, Romelu Lukaku is set to return from an ankle injury. The Belgian’s late strike ensured Everton left Upton Park with all three points in the reverse fixture and he’s 7/2 to net the last goal in this contest.

And goalmouth action could well be plentiful in this latest meeting. In seven of the pair’s last nine encounters the total has gone over 2.5 goals and the absence of Everton’s influential captain Phil Jagielka gives extra hope to those banking on a goal-fest, with 3/4 up for grabs on three or more goals here.

West Ham’s recent resurgence has them well-placed to come out on top on this occasion and strike another blow to Everton’s hopes of breaking into the top four.

The Hammers’ last victory at Goodison was a 2-1 success back in 2005 with a repeat of that scoreline on at a tempting 20/1.
