Everton can move on from Spurs defeat by scraping past Palace

Everton’s bid for a top-four spot hit some serious snags with defeat to their two main rivals for the coveted berth, Liverpool and Tottenham, within the last three games.

However, as they did in the intervening 2-1 win over Aston Villa, the Toffees can find solace by collecting another three points at Goodison Park against one of the Premier League teams more concerned with survival.

It would appear the odds-compilers at Ladbrokes tend to agree with this theory too, placing the Toffees as 9/20 favourites to win their fourth straight home league match and their ninth all-told at Goodison this season.

Crystal Palace should not be written off entirely at 13/2, though their much-lauded resurgence is very much rooted in their Selhurst Park-form, with the draw a 10/3 shot.

Despite playing well in games, on the road the Eagles have lost their last three straight, which have all come against current members of the Premier League’s top five – where sixth-placed Everton had resided for the majority of the season.

Tony Pulis has forged a newfound solidity at Palace, but he is yet to find a recipe for goal-scoring on the road.

His side have failed to score in the last three off the coach – making it seven fruitless games in total away from home, and in the five they have scored in, the Eagles haven’t surpassed a single strike.

Without Romelu Lukaku, the Toffees are less of a threat, but they still managed to score twice against Villa to continue a pattern of three straight home games where they’ve notched exactly that amount.

Therefore, punters may well wish to try their hand at a considered bet of 2-0/2-1 to the hosts at 29/10 in the coupled correct score market as the most profitable plan of attack for this one.
