Everton just too good at Goodison for Swansea to march on

Published:

Everton’s bid to make it into the oversubscribed Premier League top-four may have hit the buffers in recent times, but that gives renewed emphasis to the FA Cup where they should prove too strong for Swansea in this televised fifth-round clash.

As football clichés go, the word fortress gets bandied about with the best of them, though Everton’s Goodison Park home actually has more of a legitimate claim than most.

The Toffees have only lost once at home all season and as they entertain Swansea off the back of four straight wins on Merseyside, they look worth their odds-on price of 8/13 to win it inside the 90 minutes.

What would be a shock win for Swansea is priced as such at 5/1, while the Welsh side forcing a replay comes in at a more believable 11/4.

It’s fair to say that Swansea have not enjoyed their exchanges with Everton since gaining Premier League status either.

Over the course of five meetings, Swansea’s best result remains a draw, while their last of four defeats arrived in a
2-1 reverse at the Liberty Stadium earlier in the current campaign.

Although Garry Monk has picked up four points from his first two games in charge of the Swans, Everton’s ranks are still lined with the greater quality.

And after having their midweek game postponed, Everton’s legs will certainly be the fresher of the two sides.

In each of their last six wins at home Everton have scored at least twice and this means punters shouldn’t balk at the 7/10 on offer they surpass the 1.5 goals mark again.

Also worth noting that the Toffees tend to spread their scoring out over both halves – with five of their last six home wins producing goals either side of the break – an outcome which can be backed at 5/4.
