Best bets from three Premier League relegation ‘six-pointers’

Published:

It’s that time in the Premier League calendar when the phrase ‘six-pointer’ gets bandied about more frequently than Lady Gaga changes her appearance.

Not to be left out, we’ve picked out three games from the forthcoming weekend’s top-flight fixtures which we think are worth at least half-a-dozen points and even done the courteous thing of offering a choice bet for each.

Crystal Palace to beat West Brom 1-0 @ 13/2

Having kept five clean sheets in their last seven Premier League games at Selhurst Park, Tony Pulis has fast developed a Britannia Stadium-style mentality south of the Thames.

More than happy to grind the results out at home – the last two have finished 1-0 – there seems every chance that the Eagles could inflict the same result on West Brom which did for the Baggies in two of their last three away games.

Sunderland to beat Hull @ 21/20

It’s fair to say 2014 has begun in pretty desperate fashion for Steve Bruce’s Tigers, who’ve not won any of their five games since the New year’s champagne flutes were drained – losing four of those.

On the complete opposite side of the street, Sunderland have reached a cup final and couldn’t be more buoyant after sinking arch rivals Newcastle 3-0, making it 10 points harvested in the same period.

Under 1.5 goals in Swansea v Cardiff @ 9/4

These south Wales derbies are tense enough affairs at the best of times, but will be rendered all the more turgid thanks to the acrimonious departure of Swansea boss Michael Laudrup.

The last three of these needle matches have ended 1-0 to one side or another, so backing another goal-shy encounter should prove a fruitful move once again.
