Arsenal youth policy to land them next Aguero ahead of Man City
Published:When it comes to buying talent young, nurturing it then giving the player a chance to establish himself in the first team, Arsenal have a far better track record than Manchester City.
It’s that exact trait that could see the north London club win the race to sign a young Argentine prodigy dubbed the next Sergio Aguero ahead of the Citizens.
18-year-old sensation Angel Correa is on the radar of both clubs, as well as European giants like Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Napoli.
Able to play as a striker, a number 10 or from the flanks, the San Lorenzo star has got scouts flocking to Buenos Aires to catch a live glimpse of the player thought to have been the subject of an Atleti bid.
That news hasn’t dampened Arsenal’s hopes of landing Correa, whose style of play rather than goalscoring record has drawn comparisons to Man City’s prolific forward.
The Rosario native has just four goals to his name from 21 matches in all competitions for San Lorenzo, but at such a young age cannot be expected to find the net with Aguero-like regularity yet.
A small goal return hasn’t stopped San Lorenzo from ramping up the superlatives on their young star, with owner Marcelo Tinelli thought to be unwilling to deal the player for anything less than £10m.
Having nabbed stars like Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and, to a lesser extent, Yaya Sanogo at a young age before moulding them into consistent first-team performers, Correa seems to be the perfect Wenger purchase.
If silverware is an issue, then Arsenal could well be able to use that as a bargaining ploy this summer as they sit one point behind Chelsea in the Premier League, a competition they are 13/2 to win.
As for City, it’s highly plausible that they end the season without a single trophy despite fighting on four fronts for much of the season.
