Wright and Dernbach the men to lead England to T20 series win

Published:

All that remains for England in this long and wretched tour of Australia is a three-game Twenty20 smash up.

England are the 6/4 outsiders to win the series, and will benefit greatly from the arrival of some fresh and in-form faces like Luke Wright and Jade Dernbach.

The hosts are the understandable 8/15 favourites, however, this is far and away the best chance the tourists have of claiming some credibility on the tour. Australia are ranked as the worst T20 side of the eight Test playing nations and are without consecutive wins in the format since 2010, some 14 games ago.

Away from the series betting market, though, lie some juicily plump bets, laced with value. For Australia there is no man worth looking beyond than Aaron Finch to be the hosts’ top series run scorer.

The burly opener won’t have David Warner or Shane Watson for competition during the three games and simply loves batting against England, as his two recent ODI tons and 156 in the T20 at Southampton this past summer attests.

He is the unsurprising favourite, at 15/8, to blaze another green and gold trail at the top of the order and in a squad of little experience, has to be backed.

For England, Wright and Dernbach stand out. Wright arrives for national service sitting as the third-leading runscorer in the current Big Bash League, the domestic Australian T20 competition, and a 7/2 shot to continue that form for England.

He looks well-placed to make good on that price considering his extended Australian bedding in period. Meanwhile, Dernbach is the man to take with the ball. He’s snared the second-most victims internationally in this form of the game over the last two years and is 9/2 to be England’s leading wicket taker during the series.
