Stats say Manchester City are unassailable in title race already
Manchester City may not have stayed at the top of the table for more than one game so far this season, but their most recent ascent to the summit could not have been timed any better according to the record books.
If you were thinking about staking a sizeable sum on this marauding Man City side to win the Premier League, even before they served Tottenham a second helping of whipped cream, then dally no longer.
Their odds may have shrunk to 8/13 after spanking Spurs, but the statistics are crystal clear; the team who are top after 23 games have elapsed, will win the Premier League.
Not since the soon-to-be invincible Gunners during the 2002/03 campaign has a team failed to convert being top with 15 games to go, into actually winning the league.
Bad news then for the current Arsenal outfit it would seem, who, despite laying claim to top spot for the vast majority of the campaign, may just have surrendered it at precisely the wrong moment.
This overwhelming trend would also appear to ratify the constant stream of Arsenal’s title-doubters this season, where two dropped points at Southanpton have seen them drop over night to 5/1-shots out from 4/1.
However, stats aside, City’s latest swashbuckling performance is the most palatable evidence any would-be backer needs.
For Manuel Pellegrini’s rampant roster of stars to flatten a Tottenham team who were one of the top-flight’s form teams in such a manner, is all the confirmation one should need.
Meanwhile 10/3 shots Chelsea failed to overcome West Ham and even in the unlikely event the Blues defeat City in their crunch game next up at fortress Etihad, they’ll still be behind them on goal difference.
