NHL: Lightning and Sharks to win in TV double
Washington and Detroit head to Tampa Bay and San Jose respectively looking to end a poor run of results against their hosts.
However, the Lightning and the Sharks will be more confident of picking up the wins and should be backed in our better-than-evens midweek double.
Tampa Bay (26-13-4) have won eight of their last 11 matches home and away and will be confident of improving that record against a Washington (20-16-6) side woefully out of form.
The Capitals have lost six of their last seven including four straight and confidence of avoiding a season’s-worst fifth straight loss will be thin given the visitor’s records at the Tampa Bay Times Forum.
Adam Oates’ men are in fact going in search of a fifth win in six meetings with the Lightning – hence their pricing as 6/5 narrow underdogs – but have left the Forum empty handed on six of the last seven occasions.
Tampa have lost just four of their last 15 in front of a home crowd and look unlikely to dent that run against the Verizon Center outfit here.
With a recent win over reigning Stanley Cup champions Chicago under their belts San Jose (27-11-6) are now swimming along nicely in the Western Conference Pacific Division, having won seven of their last 10 outings.
The Sharks look well placed to enhance that record, having looked extremely impressive at the SAP Center of late.
Todd McLellan’s side have won five straight in front of their own fans and the hosts will not fear the arrival of the travelling Red Wings (19-14-10).
Joe Louis’ team are 4-9 from their last 13 and while enjoying a decent 7-3 record from their last 10 road trips, the visitors will not be relishing a trip to California, having lost four the last five meetings with San Jose as the away side.
