Manchester City midfielder ruled out for eight weeks with knee injury
Published:Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri has been ruled out for eight weeks after injuring his knee ligaments in his side’s 2-0 win at Newcastle.
Nasri was substituted at St James’ Park after Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa’s late challenge and there were fears he might not feature for City again this season
The Frenchman tweeted: “Thank you everyone for your kind words and overwhelming support, I suppose it’s kind of good news that I will be out around 8 weeks.”
While the French international’s absence will be a huge blow to the Citizens, who are still 10/11 favourites to win the Premier League, manager Manuel Pellegrini will be delighted to be able to call on the services of the former Arsenal man for the title run-in.
France, who are 18/1 with Ladbrokes for World Cup glory, will also be pleased with the news after it initially looked as if Nasri could be ruled out of next summer’s showpiece in Brazil.
The former Marseille star has been an integral part of Pellegrini’s plans this season, making 28 appearances and scoring five goals in all competitions.
The City star will now miss crucial league matches against Tottenham, Chelsea and rivals Manchester United, while he will also miss Wednesday’s FA Cup third round replay with Blackburn, which City are 1/8 to win.
He is also set to miss his side’s Champions League first leg tie against Barcelona but the 26-year-old could give the Manchester club, who are 6/4 to qualify for the quarter-finals, a massive boost by featuring in the return leg with the Catalan giants.
Manchester City are 16/1 to lift the European Cup for the first time in their history and Nasri’s return from injury could get them across the line against Barcelona and propel them all the way to glory.
