Man Utd links rife as Solskjaer bids to better Cardiff’s attack

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must be enjoying life at Cardiff so far.

An FA Cup win at Newcastle in his first match in charge has been followed up by his chairman stumping up the cash for him to bring in a few of his own players.

Mats Moller Daehli and Magnus Wolff Eikrem have been sounded out to brighten the creative spark in central midfield and now they look set to test how useful Solskjaer’s Manchester United links are when they ask to borrow Wilfried Zaha for the remainder of the season.

The £15m signing from Crystal Palace has struggled for game time this season and it’s thought that David Moyes is willing to allow him out on loan to boost his development.

The Bluebirds are the latest to join the long queue of suitors, though whether the 21-year-old will be allowed to depart Old Trafford temporarily hinges on the fitness of Nani.

Should Moyes sanction a loan, though, the competition to land Zaha will be immense. Palace want him back, while the likes of Newcastle and Everton are just two Premier League rivals linked, in addition to those based abroad.

Sharpening the teeth of the Welsh club is clearly top priority for the Norwegian and he is also thought to be interested in bringing another ex-Red Devil with him to the Liberty Stadium.

Mame Biram Diouf is his top striking transfer target as he looks to inject goals into a frontline that’s been far too reliant on Frazier Campbell this season.

The Senegalese frontman will be departing current club Hannover 96 upon the expiry of his contract in the summer and after bagging 12 goals in 24 Bundesliga starts last term, he could prove a shrewd acquisition.

He scoring rate is around the same mark this time around, with five registered from 11 starts. Contrast this to Cardiff’s current leading goal-getter, Campbell, who has four in 16 top tier starts – three more than any of his striking comrades have mustered – it becomes clear how essential upping the chance conversion rate is if the club are to beat the odds of 13/8 that say they’ll be relegated.
