Man Utd line up Ligue 1 superstar as Rooney replacement

However, plans are afoot to replace the England striker should he decide that United’s situation can’t be improved upon, with PSG striker Edinson Cavani being lined up as a replacement.
It will be a bold statement should the Old Trafford club successfully lure the Uruguayan frontman to England, considering he currently has Champions League football guaranteed each year at PSG and is on course to win the first European league title of his career.
Despite being five points clear of nearest rivals Monaco in the race for the Ligue 1 trophy, the former Napoli goal-getter is rumoured to be disenchanted with life in the French capital, unhappy at the sub-par standard of many of the sides competing and the lack of passion and intensity that surrounds the football there.
That hasn’t stopped Luis Suarez’s international strike partner from nabbing 12 league goals this season, the second highest tally in the division, but a switch to the Premier League would obviously be a considerable step-up should Cavani want to test himself at a more intense level.
And Moyes is said to be confident of landing his number one target should Rooney quit, according to the Mirror, saying: “Judging by trips I’ve made recently and the things I am hearing, what has happened so far this season won’t be an issue when we sign players. The number of big players wanting to join Manchester United is incredible.”
