Liverpool keeping close tabs on unsettled Barcelona wide man

Published:

According to Sky Sports’ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague, out-of-favour Barcelona winger Christian Tello will be one of the ‘transfer stories of the summer’ and Liverpool are one Premier League club who are perfectly placed to offer him a new home.

Liverpool are still actively seeking January transfers if the right options are available, but will have to wait until the summer to renew their interest in Barcelona’s 22-year-old Spaniard, after Tello distanced himself from a winter move.

Speaking in a Q&A session on the Sky Sport’s website, Ballague said: “I think Barcelona will listen to offers for him (Tello) and Alexis. If that’s the case, then there will be offers. I know that Tello is willing to go. Liverpool won’t be the only team that want him. He will be one of the transfer stories of the summer.”

Although Tello was afforded plenty of playing time under previous Nou Camp bosses, he has seen a dramatic reduction in minutes under Gerardo Martino this season, completing just two La Liga games to date.

If this pattern continues, Anfield could prove the perfect place for Tello to reinvigorate his highly promising career, especially if the Reds fulfil their Champions League qualification target this season – a quest priced at 17/20 by Ladbrokes.

Liverpool currently lie fourth in the Premier League table thanks to a vastly superior goal difference over Tottenham, but still require fleshing out their squad, especially in wide positions.

Victor Moses hasn’t cut the mustard, leaving Brendan Rodgers without many viable alternatives to Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho; the current first-choice picks.

Tello could provide Liverpool with another top quality option from the flanks, something they’ve been missing thus far, despite improving significantly since last season.
