Lack of transfer window activity can lead Norwich to the drop

For most clubs the January transfer window provides them with the perfect opportunity to call in the cavalry and turn a potentially dire season into one of reasonable credibility.

Newcastle managed it last term, with their influx of Frenchmen, but for Norwich it doesn’t look likely that they’ll be replicating the Geordies’ star turn.

Rather than seeing knights in shining armour flood through the Carrow Road front door ready to salvage a struggling side, the Canaries faithful are instead having to put up with some of their more revered number being linked with moves away.

Robert Snodgrass, who was one of the club’s stand out performers last season, has yet to reach those heights this time around and looks to have had his head turned by a potential switch to Celtic, the club he professes to be a huge fan of.

Another Norwich midfielder, Wes Hoolahan, is so desperate to quit the Norfolk club that he’s handed in a transfer request.

Although a small sample size, it’s hardly a ringing endorsement that the current squad are up for the relegation fight and the lack of incoming players coupled with the dire form of Chris Hughton’s side makes them relegation fodder.

The men of the yellow and green jerseys have won just one game in their last nine and have scored a paltry five goals in that time, yet they are 9/2 shots to be relegated from the Premier League.

With games against Newcastle, Man City and Tottenham on the horizon in the next five matches, there doesn’t seem to be too much respite for the shot-shy strugglers.

With barely even a transfer rumour to speak about, the lack of activity must be a real worry for Norwich, who’ve seen drop-rivals like Hull sign strike duo Nikica Jelavic and Shane Long already this January, while the likes of Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Gary Hooper have failed to fire.
