Jovetic will be key component in Man City’s quadruple quest

When Manchester United won their famous treble of ‘99 the Red Devils were replete with four top class strikers in Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Now it’s their noisy neighbours, Manchester City, who are the ones vying for an unprecedented quadruple and with the news that forgotten man Stevan Jovetic is finally ready to return from a string of injuries; this seemingly outrageous 66/1-rated bid could become reality.

While it can be argued that City have hardly missed Jovetic’s presence up until now given the goal-scoring exploits of their other three on-song strikers, Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo, the Montenegro star will offer a different dimension.

Jovetic can play up front, but was just as effective off a main striker for former club Fiorentina because he possesses the guile to thread a pass and can even operate from out wide given his pace.

So far, Pellegrini has been blessed that Edin Dzeko remained fit to do the business for City during Aguero’s enforced injury layoff, but as all four competitions heat up, the squad will be tested to the maximum.

With Aguero prone to injury, Pellegrini may well be left short again and if either Dzeko or Negredo suffer the same fate, then Jovetic’s presence means the quality can be maintained.

After losing one of his most creative sparks in the form of Samir Nasri, the Man City boss has already hinted that Jovetic could provide a similar role in the team, cutting in from the left.

Jovetic may well get his next chance to prove his worth during City’s Capital One Cup semi-final second leg against West Ham, where he’s likely to come off the bench, and he makes a tempting 4/1 bet to score last.
