Former Chelsea forward being lined up to join Tottenham attack

Published:

Following the news that Jermain Defoe is soon to set sail for the MLS, Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has wasted little time lining up a replacement, though the name Salomon Kalou will have come as a surprise to many of a Spurs persuasion.

After spending six seasons at Stamford Bridge without ever really cementing a place in the Chelsea starting XI it was understandable that Kalou was allowed to leave on a Bosman to French club Lille in the summer of 2012.

Nevertheless, a flurry of 12 goals in his last 15 Ligue 1 appearances last season and six more this, have clearly alerted Sherwood to the possible dividends of bringing him back to the Premier League.

Having plied his trade for so long in the English top-flight, the Ivorian’s attraction becomes all the clearer given the adjustment period which often plagues arrivals from other European leagues will not be necessary.

While Lille will be reluctant to let one of their star players leave mid-season, Spurs could certainly benefit from signing Kalou as they bid to squeeze into the top four.

The next opportunity for Spurs to further that cause arrives in Sunday’s televised clash at Swansea, and given the Londoners favourable record against the Welsh club, three points seems infinitely achievable – which can be backed at 5/4 with Ladbrokes.

Not only did Spurs defeat Swansea in the return fixture earlier in the season, but they are unbeaten in all five Premier League meetings against them, winning four.

And having scored at least twice in four of their last five league games since Sherwood was asked to take the interim reigns, backing over 1.5 Tottenham goals at the Liberty at odds of 21/10 looks a really solid option as well.
