Everton trounce Liverpool in Mix n Match XI as Sturridge sits out

Published:

With one point separating the Merseyside clubs in the Premier League, their yearly rivalry has reached new heights with a place in the most lucrative club competition in Europe at stake.

Everton travel to Anfield to face their red foes as the 10/3 outsiders for victory, with Brendan Rodgers’ side the 17/20 favourites to win and a stalemate priced at 11/4.

With the bragging rights set to be settled for this season, it’s Everton who have their noses in front early on, with seven of their number making our Mix n Match XI as opposed to four from Liverpool.

What are your thoughts on the XI?

Everton have conceded eight less top-flight goals than Liverpool for a reason and as an experienced Premier League campaigner, Tim Howard, is a big part of that.

He’s joined in the back line by Toffees teammates Seamus Coleman, who is one of the most improved players in the whole division this season, Leighton Baines and Phil Jagielka, while Martin Skrtel ousts Sylvain Distin from the starting line-up as Liverpool’s best central defender this term.

In midfield, it’s a throwback to the 2010 World Cup as Steven Gerrard hands over the sitting midfielder duties to Gareth Barry, allowing the England captain to maraud forward at will in a bid to add to his five league goals and six assists this season.

The attacking midfield three sees two of the blue half of Merseyside get the nod, with Kevin Mirallas asked to parade the right hand touchline and Ross Barkley picked to upstage Brazilian counterpart Philippe Coutinho in the number 10 role.

Up front Romelu Lukaku can feel hard done by after a flying start to the season, but the fact that he hasn’t been able to maintain it sees the scoring phenomenon that is Luis Suarez take the field, even over strike partner Daniel Sturridge.
