Brentford on for perfect ten with Gillingham at Griffin Park

Published:

Brentford’s recent winning run may have come to an end last week but they remain on a roll at home and strugglers Gillingham could be in for a tough time.

The Bees are 2/5 favourites to claim a 10th consecutive victory at Griffin Park and though a 1-1 away draw with Walsall ended a run of six straight wins home and away, they should have enough to see off a Gillingham side priced as 7/1 outsiders for the win with Ladbrokes.

Peter Taylor’s team have enjoyed some excellent results at home of late, with back-to-back victories over Wolvers and Swindon recorded in recent weeks.

However the Gills still struggle for form on the road, losing four of the last five games they have played away from the Priestfield Stadium.

Last time these two met in the league, Gillingham claimed a credible 1-1 draw and if a similar result is to be achieved here – something that is still a distant 7/2 – they will need their goalscorer on that day, Ade Akinfenwa, to be on song.

The 31-year-old striker found the net twice during the Gills last win on the road against Tranmere, and the 10/3 offered on the forward scoring at anytime could certainly tempt.

However, Brentford’s dominance at home makes the prospects of an upset slim with the Bees scoring a glut of goals at Griffin Park during their dazzling run.

All told, six of the last nine wins the Londoners have enjoyed on home turf have featured three or more goals and with 21/20 offered on a Brentford win with over 2.5 goals scored, this could be the bet of the night.

Those fancying the Bees to claim a more substantial win, meanwhile, may look to the statistic that five of those victories have come by a margin of two goals or more, making the Brentford win (-1) handicap offered at 21/20 a similarly tempting prospect.

Much will depend on the form of strikers Marcello Trotta and Clayton Donaldson, both of whom head into the game off the back of a great scoring run.

Trotta has found the net in each of Brentford’s last three games at home and is evens to score at any time against the Gills.

Donaldson, meanwhile, has scored in four of the Bees’ last five games and while on at 4/5 to grab a goal at anytime in this game, he could be better combined in a wincast bet, priced at evens with Ladbrokes.

With Brentford in fine form heading into this one, a 10th consecutive home win should be a formality.
