Atletico set for distraction-free win to nil over Valencia

Published:

When Atletico Madrid battled Valencia in the first leg of their Copa del Rey last-16 clash, they had the looming, title-shaping clash with Barcelona in their sights.

A 1-1 draw at the Mestalla was perhaps indicative of Atleti’s reluctance to play at full force, saving themselves somewhat for the Barca match while still keeping themselves in this tie.

Now, as they return home for the second leg, there is nothing holding them back from recording a comprehensive win to nil.

In the match betting scene, Diego Simeone’s men are the strong fancies for victory at 7/20, a price that is wholly justifiable considering they’ve only lost one match all season.

Valencia stand as the whopping 8/1 outsiders for a 90-minute victory, with a draw listed as a 10/3 shot.

However, with such little value surrounding a bet on Atletico winning, punting on them doing so while keeping their sheets clean is a far better option.

It’s 23/20 that Los Colchoneros win the match to nil, a flutter that looks as solid as the foundations that their very own Vicente Calderón Stadium is built on considering seven of the last nine games there have ended in that fashion.

To aid the theory that the win to nil market is the go-to destination for the match, Valencia’s away scoring is far from fearsome.

They’ve managed just eight strikes in La Liga day trips this season, which ranks as the fifth worst away attack in the division, and they’ve scored just once on their travels in the last three.

Away from the win to nil market, Diego Costa is currently suffering his longest scoring drought of the season. But, the fact that it stands at a measly two games shouldn’t detract from backing the Brazilian native, who has notched 23 goals in 22 appearances this season, to score first at 5/2.
