Aston Villa turn their attention to Norwich City dynamo

Aston Villa could be set to continue their January shopping with a big money bid for Norwich City midfielder Robert Snodgrass.

The Villans have already been linked with a move for fellow Canaries man, 31-year-old Wes Hoolahan, who had a transfer request turned down by the East Anglia club last week.

However, manager Paul Lambert has not given up hope of recruiting from the club he once managed, with the 26-year-old Scot another potential target for the former Wycombe gaffer.

Villa were believed to have bid around £1m for Hoolahan’s services, a price that was somewhat lower than expected due to the player’s age.

However, Snodgrass would most likely cost the club considerably more, with the midfielder yet to hit his peak years and enjoying some of his best form despite Norwich’s patchy season so far.

The Canaries are 9/2 to suffer relegation, having won just one of their last seven Premier League games, though the Scot has so far excelled for the East Anglia club since his big money move from Leeds United back in July 2012.

A move to Villa could see a reunion of sorts for Snodgrass, who would link up with former Whites academy colleague Fabian Delph in an exciting midfield line-up that could propel Villa up the league table.

He would also team-up with former Canaries man Grant Holt, who signed on loan with the Midlands giants earlier this month.

Villa have been relatively busy this January, with Chelsea youngster Ryan Bertrand also recruited on loan to bolster a team that hasn’t given up on ambitions of finishing in the Premier League top 10, despite their indifferent start to the campaign.

Paul Lambert’s team are 12/5 with Ladbrokes to finish in the top 10 this season, and with Snodgrass potentially on board, they should be backed to do just that.
